I want to no how u guys build your levels, Is it sitting down with a piece of paper and working your brains off while thinking of ideas? Or is it the imagination one where you just make the design and look of the level as you go along?

......Just curious......

I start by creating the story for the level, choose a location and a time for it.
After that, I make a sketch of the level with all the thinks that I can think of and connect them.
After that, I try to think of puzzles that suit the level and I would find hard or at least take a little to solve.
After that, possible enemyes and things they could do to make the level more challenging or spice it up. After all these things, the textures and then building and testing.

before I had the LE, I made scetches of the ideas I had for level design
once I got it, I just go by ideas in the head and take it from there

also every day life or other games inspire me to re-build sceneries in the LE
I've done a bit from Mario 64's castle, bits from my own house and I also got inspired by a tv show once

and when I'm not at home and I get ideas, I grab the nearest piece if paper and write it down or make scetches

but mainly, I go directly from ideas to actual design

First, I think "What's the level going to be?" Then, I think "What's the first room going to look like?". Then, for every upcoming rooms, I think "What's next room going to look like and where should it be placed?". Of course I also think of a background plot, otherwise the level would be strange (but that's good for a Lara's dream level)!

I have a main idea. No pen and paper. I begin and see where it ends. Puzzle come along the way and the develop of the wad go's along with it.

Before i can build anything i need inspiration

I play TR3 for day or 2, then when my inspiration is high enough i take 2 days off to let my head filled with idea's. Then i kinda getting pumped like a high pressure water gun when i am full

Time to get my hands dirty

I make my custom wad using Trwest + my custom texture set ( this is the most hardest work for me )

then i start building what i had in mind ( jungle/egyptian etc... )

After i builded room or 10 i start to think how the rest of the level should look, scetching in my mind a plan on looks and areas

Next I build only rooms + traps, no puzzles yet, the places where i want puzzles i write down on paper so i wont forget it. When the evening falls i get back from the pc ( about after 2 hours of LE ) then take a pencil and paper to work out ideas for puzzles. I put the needed stuff and build the room for the puzzle, after thats done i put the triggers

And after all this the finishing touches, pickups enemies.

Thats how i always...build..

The most important thing is for me, when building a room I have to finish the room, i dont build a blanc whole level and at the end i texture all, its very boring job to me like this. I always make the rooms finished ( lights objects etc ) Ofcourse everyone its own style of editing

I use graph paper and a pencil. Some of my best ideas come from that.

I usually spend A LOT of time on building, and I do it in spirts, or sections. I might go back and remodel rooms a lot because I have different ideas. I am a bit synical. These last 10 or 15 levels of my game are gonna be my last........ Or not...

I draw scenes for Tomb Raider: Temple of Chiholtopec on drawing paper. I used to use graph paper, but I do not anymore.

Let's see....

1) I open the level in RoomViewer and create the rooms/ally textures in TRLE buy that. (Alternately, I convert it with TR2prj, then open it with RoomViewer and apply textures)
2) I open the level in TRItem and place objects/lights in TRLE buy that.
3) During steps 1 & 2, I do alot of wad editing with TR2WAD, WadMerger, TRWest and StrPix2/3. I also have ripped the textures from the level with Jack! and modified them in Paint Shop Pro.
4) I also go through several released versions during the entire process to work out the bugs.

** Note: I'm the one doing the TR1 conversion **

Seriously, I have one (and only one) level I am creating on my own. I've also been working on this level since I first got TRLE. Well, since my other computer commited suicide (that's another story ), but it's nearly the same as the original. Anyway, it's basically a "Create as you go" level. Meaning, I have no idea what the story is, what all's going to be in it or anything. It's just a level where I go "oh, that's a good idea, let's see where I can put that in this level". And, no, none of them are "stolen" ideas, just things that pop into my head that I think are cool .

Anyway, enought rambling by me .
