Long while ago, before i stopped editing for a while, i was making my new part III level, a level with rapids and mountains etc. However i looked at original TR3 ingame and also used tr2prj to see how they created rapids, I discovered that they are using a plain floor with animated textures on it, but lara drowns after she steps on, well thats a mysterie and a secret of Tr3, so i am using death tiles... anyhow when I texture the floors i get trouble with the animation of the textures, no this aint the quarter tiles problem that dont animate... My tiles do animate, but however when i place them on triangled surfaces some parts dont animate. Look down here... I marked the triangles which do animate Blue, but the red parts dont animate ingame... So it seems like this side of triangles wont animate, any explanation for it ?????? Cause in tr3 i seen floor create with triangles, to create a rough floor, real rapids, but i am forced to make little slopes and flat surfaces and i dont want to ------------------ The best thing and last thing is to try ( ^_^ )=b IP: Logged |

Do you do anything special to those triangles, like rotate or flip the texture? Are those squares the death squares? Is there anything different about them, no matter how small it seems.

Have you tried holding down 'alt' on the keyboard when you texture the squares? This makes sure broken sections of a square are textured correctly and saves having to do them idividually. Give it a go and see if it works. IP: Logged |

Yasin, I have an idea about the rapids that might work. I thought also that the rapids are just a plain door, and that the rapid effect is something you can add to the floor, like the death squares. So here's my idea - you can ask an animation proffesional if this will work - you have to extract the Lara's drowning animation from TR3 and replace with Lara's burning one in your levels' wads. Of course you might wont be able to add fire effects that hurt Lara in those levels, but at least you'll have some really great rapids in your level. I think it's worth the sacrifice. IP: Logged |

Thanks for some feedback. Some feedback back aktrekker > Well, i didnt do anything special yet, i just apply the textures using right click and applying a whole row ( 4 tiles ). Just the red marked triangles wont animate, i dont know if it has effect when rotating them, i will try... Skibsy > No, cause like i mentioned above, i use right click to apply a whole row but i do use Alt to apply a texture on broken surfaces, but this is something different... eTux > Brilliant Idea, however i do have some flame traps in mind it will look stupid if you hit a flame and burn to death, but 90% of my level is going to excist out of rapids, falls, currents. So I think it is worth, then this calls for a sequil help question How do i do this ???? ------------------ The best thing and last thing is to try ( ^_^ )=b [This message has been edited by Yasin (edited 04-10-2002).] IP: Logged |

If honestly, I don't know myself, I just had this idea in my mind. As I said you should ask Tomoko, Tijay and others whom I haven't mentioned but they do edit animations. Tomo made it possible for Lara to search shelves, and things like that, Lara did in TRC. That was a special animation, which was contained in the LARA object in the wad. I guess all animations except for the gun animations are kept in this object. You could ask him if this is possible. As long as I know either Tijay or Tomo made the T-Rex fuly working, so if we can make the T-Rex, searching shelves and things like that to work properly, why couldn't we do the same thing with some of Lara's dying animations? It can't be that hard. But not all 'level editors' are wad editors too, so I don't know how could you do this yourself. That's the time we need help from 'wad editors' like Tomoko and the others So don't be shy, write him a line or two, and he'll know what to do (or just make a topic with your request here or anywhere, whereyou think people will help you)IP: Logged |

Bring up this topic again to Top since this is very important for me.Still I am working on my Madubu George type level, and still I get problems with the Triangle surfaces, Rotating the texture doesnt help, but it does help when you use that Triangle Green at Texture panel, somehow if you point it the other way like, right-down corner then aply the texture it does animate. But the worst thing is I get extreme ugly surfaces, ingame as well as in room editor, I see textures animating the other way instead of animating down, or ugly-pressed-together-textures. I am going to run some tests on this, I think this problem occurs only when using 4-quarter-tile-textures What I am going to do is using a paint program to make of 32x32 tiles 64x64 textures. Then apply them on triangle surfaces, if the 64x64 animate right way I will entirly change to this texturing way. Also I am going to run test on the texture panel with the gree/red triangle Pointing them the different way and see what happens when applying and looking. If anyone has clues or solutions, please report here, This is very helpful since maby people also will make these type of levels. IP: Logged |

This is Insane !! I tested many ways the 4-quarter tiles and sometimes they animate then again they dont, I placed 4 different types Green/red triangles, I also rotaded them in every direction, But i cant seem to find the connection between the textures and the triangles.... Arggggggg What I did find out is, no matter what you do, 64x64 tiles always animate on triangles surfaces, using the alt button and rotating them as you please the thing will animate, Guess I will switch to 64x64 tiles.......but first I need to enlarge 32x32 to 64x64 tiles.......now how am I going to do that.... I dont have special programs accept Mspaint IP: Logged |

Paint can resize. On the Win98 version, I can go into Image->Stretch/Skew. On the dialog, change the vertical and horizontal to 200%. It might not look as good as more professional packages, but it will work.

My test proved to be wrong, i changed the quarter tiles into 64x64 and applied on triangled surfaces but failed... However.... It does works on walls.....The animated triangles work well on walls for 64x64 but not on floor...... ?????????????????????????????????????? I am so out of ideas guess have to use Flat floor and little slopes IP: Logged |
