In short words it is really quite simple:
1. You need to have the TR Level Editor installed which is on the second CD that comes with TR Chronicles - typically you would install that into C:\ProgramFiles\CoreDesign\TRLE\....
2. When downloading a Custom Level you usually will get the following files:script.dat and english.dat - which need to go into the above mentioned TRLE directory
optionally some *.wav files - which need to go into the TRLE\audio directory
sometimes a *.TR4 file (usually 5-8 MB in size) - which needs to go into the TRLE\data directory
often a *.TOM file or even 10 files of the same name with different extensions and one of them *.TOM - these all need to go into the TRLE\graphics\wads directory and then you need to run the Level Convertor to build a TR4 file from those files (refer to the TRLE manual on the CD on how to do that)
Once all that is done - simply run the game and play.
