Just read this a 3D Gaming site........Doom 3: Quoting John Carmack, for the new engine the editor will be part of the main game executable and called via a command line parameter. Will that make it possible for level designers to preview their maps without fully re-compiling each time? Will the 3D-Window within the editor finally be game-engine-powered? And what will this mean in terms of the editor's looks and usability in general? Robert Duffy: Yes the editor is built into the game ( as are all the tools ). You can preview in realtime what a level looks like. The editor is much like Q3Radiant but with additional functionality.
I'm salivating in anticipation....

The serious sam editor has a thing like that. You just hit "t" i believe and it loads the level right in the level editor, in one of the panels and u can play it, exit, edit, and play it again without having to leave the editor. The serious sam engine owns. UT2003 will own after though. IP: Logged |

the ability to use a hot key to access the "command line"to modify, load different maps, enemies & such & OR go from editor to in-game play has been around since at least (96')Quake 1 level editor(Qoole program)& also the Quake engine Itself( "tilde key"=command line access) since niether the trle or the tre3D level ed programs use this feature; it may seem new to many of you. however, we are comparing "apples to oranges".1st person "shooters" games use different resources than do - *sophisticated* 3rd person( 3D camera oriented) action games.

I think you miss the point Fairchild, the object of this topic was for the interest of those who wish to expand from the TR level editor, and those who just generally like level editors. IP: Logged |

Dharma, i appreciate all that you've done for this game, but i'm going to have to almost "pretend i didn't hear it"- of your reply to my earlier post.i feel you missed "my point". most would have noticed that i'd already Seen *what you are talking about* & that i was (i thought), replying to questions about "why some level editor programs- do Not seem to do all that is necessary"... and ... "what can We use in the future?" . i..er, (how can i say this..) feel as if ... YOU wish to have "powerful 3D tools to use", yet, i cannot figure if YOU wish to keep the Legacy of TombRaider alive ? do you realize that each different game level editor builds levels for That Game? comprende? my UnReal levels are much more detailed than my Turbo Pascal "TReditor TR1" levels; that's a fact. but, UnReal is no TombRaider. take care, fairchild
