>But I don't think that telling the PLAYERS >to run the TRMP in background is that user >friendly...!!hmmm, do you realy think that this is too much trouble?
Running in background mode mean, just launching the tool, it will get in background mode his self, and defining the playlist have to be done JUST ONCE when the program was launched for the first time in your computer. Then the user only have to replace the playlist.lst with the inlcuded in the custom level downloaded.
If that is too much trouble i wonder how the user is geting able to get the playable level anyway, so far i known all levels for donwload are in *.TOM file format, nobody is distributing (i think) a ready to play levels, so that "DUMY" user have to know how to make backup of his current files and install and compile the downloaded files, if they are enough smart for do that, i don;t think they will have problem using TRMP.
>I understand that TRMP should run in >background... but could there be a solution >to make it RUN without the players must >start it before to run the tomb4.exe?
Nobody will be ever able to edit tomb4.exe for add fmv support or for automatically lunch TRMP, but if you REALLY think that people is so lazzy (or so dumy) for launch the media player then there are severals solutions, but the most simples:
- Edit the task bar properties and add the program to the menu "start", so the program will be lauched when windows start.
- Or just write a simple *.BAT file, it's amazing how you are a expert on using the BAT files included in the level editor but dont know how to make a new one.
just create with notepade a text file and and write these lines:
trfmvplayer.exe
tomb4.exe
Then save the file as tomb4x.bat in you \core design\trle folder, where it's located tomb4.exe and trfmvplayer.exe, after that make a shortcut for this file in your desktop.
>I mean: the TRMP should be included in the >download of our levels or not? I think >YES...
I THINK NOT, you only need to give your *.lst file along with the media and wave files.
Why each custom level should have to include a copy of the TRMP?, i think that you only have to include your *.tom, *.wav, tombpc.dat, your playlist.lst and your custom media files to be instaled in the Audio folder.
Each user should have his own copy of TRMP and properly instaled for use the playlist.lst stored in the audio folder, the playlist.lst is replaced for each new custom level downloaded.
In short, what a "dumy" user have to do is install his own copy of TRMP once, then each time that a custom level (with fmv) is downloaded what he has to do is:
- Put the *.tr4 file in the DATA folder
- Put the media files and the playlist.lst (from the designer) in the AUDIO folder
- Launch the media player.
- Launch the tomb4.exe
Note that when the media player is launch it already start in bacground mode and checking the files especified in the current playlist.lst so the user don;t have to do anything else, just start playing the level.
Allowing dessigners especify different path for media files can be easily done for a delphi programer, (just about 2 minutes), but you will have to wait for a next version.
The TRMP can be instaled anywhere in your hard disk, but for this version the *.wav, the media files and the *.lst file have to be togeher in the audio folder.
good luck.
