My level, maybe a fourth finished, takes about 15 minutes to get through. How long would you, as the player, like it to take. How long is a good level?

Sometimes, i like a long level that is satisfying to complete (about 1hour or more), but i do enjoy good quick levels, like i once played a level called the Lost Catacombs, it didn't recieve much fame, and it was really short. But i had a lot of fun. There was lots of rope swinging puzzles, and skeletons to deal with. An good level time would be about 30-45 minutes.

Your level should be 30 minutes at least for a fun factor. You could add a boss at the end or maybe some rope swinging. I love rope swinging!

This is one of the most difficult parts of level editing.

Ok... Most levels do have about 45 min gameplay. Standard. But if we look at the eidos levels they took me something more then 1 hour to complete it. ( it was first time playing that level )

Some people add bad elements in their level to push up the time that a gamer must take. Such as Running from one side to the other side of the level for a key pickup. Then all the way back again to the key hole. Then behind the door is an another key and pick it go back to the other side of the level... Well this way its not hard to make a level which a players takes 5 hours.

I cant give you advise much. But if you want to add a long time in your level, then make sure you keep amazing the gamer.

examples.
- stunning landscapes area's - action ( not just SAS combats bang bang die..., action like, thrilling music and something chasing you ? )
- puzzles

I like levels that take me 1 week at the first time, like High Security Compound from TR3 did.
