Version 4.0 of TR_Exe provide the following new tool :

  • allow to open any savegame produced with TRLE or TR4
  • tell you in which room is currently Lara
  • allow you to modify this room number and rewrite the savegame file

Instructions for use :
- Push the "Load TR4 file" and choose a .TR4 file
- Click on Lara's portrait
- On the pop-up window shown above :
- The room where Lara stands is indicated : This is a convenient starting point to find your way, using TR_Exe.
- You can type another room number in the box below : When you press the "Save" button, your savegame file will be rewritten with the new data. Next time you play this savegame, you will find Lara in the new room ! A good system to reach inaccessible spots, is'nt it ?

Download Version 4.0 http://alainlecomte.free.fr/TR_Exe.zip (303 Ko)
Have fun

I've been looking for a tool like this for a long time. Why didn't i hear about this until now?

Is this a new tool? Because it isn't listed in the faq.

Thanks!

You mean, we can edit savegames, like making some things done, or undone, putting Lara in different rooms? Where was it earlier when I needed it?

Version 1 of this program TR_Exe was written 3 months ago and made avalaible at this Forum
in March 16.
The sub-routine to read and modify savegame files (which is in fact a tool inside the tool) is new for version 4 : I wrote it yesterday.

You perhaps also miss TR_Prj http://alainlecomte.free.fr/TR_Prj.zip ,which is another tool (Version 1 released in February 15) : While TR_Exe can open .TR4 files and show rooms, objects and triggers hidden inside the file, TR_Prj can do the same with .PRJ project files.
The way to use both programs is almost identical, except that TR_Prj does not modify savegames. Instead, it allow modification of OCB codes, switches and timer zones, inside your project file.
Why neither TR_Exe nor TR_Prj are listed in the faq, i cannot answer

Where was it earlier when I needed it?
Be confident, you will also need it in the futur

Cheating? Might be, but there are also bugs in custom levels, that make you stuck in stucksville forever. This recently happened to me in a custom level, and I had to replay the whole game till that part. Even my own level has such places, where you can get stuck and have no other way back than replaying the whole level. I think there's no fun playing a game with cheating this way, but if it helps against bugs and such things, I think it's completely OK.

...or a good way to cheat in levels...
1/ To cheat in levels, nobody was waiting for this tool : With TRsgEditor, released by Paul Walton one or two years ago, everybody can edit his savegames and get all weapons, ammos, health packs, flares and daypack items within seconds. This is really cheating. I do not do that, but I do not blame people who use it, if it is their pleasure : It is not my business, and I am not a censor.
2/ As explained by eTux, TR_Exe can be usefull in case of "design bug" in a level (locking situation). It can also reasonably be used without too many conscience problems when one is stuck in a level, has been trying for hours, and is ready to give-up.

How do you know the number of the room you want Lara to move to?
Here is a step-by-step procedure, just as an example : Let's assume that you are stuck (since hours) in front of a closed door.
1/ Open your savegame with TR_Exe, and check in which room stands currently Lara.
2/ Click that room number in the upper right grid (yellow) : The map of this room will show-up
3/ On that map, locate the closed door (small yellow square) and clic on it : The pop-up will tell you, for instance, "DOOR_TYPE8, num 161"
4/ Now that you know the room and the door number, go to the lower grid (blue) and click on the NUM_OBJECT column of the corresponding line (12 th column) : The pop-up will tell you in which room is located the trigger to open that door.
5/ Teleport Lara in this room. Once the trigger has been activated, you can even bring Lara back in its original room.
It may seem complicated, but when you do it, it is quite easy.

Data, thanks for your appreciation
