Just saw this pic in the Tomb Raider Series forum. Lara Croft skin by lco for Quake 3. I know that we'll never be able to do this with Strpix or any other tools, because of the crappy TR4 engine. Lara looks amazing in that skin, much more lifelike than TRLE outfits. maybe The Sage of Time could... [This message has been edited by LarzBritsh (edited 06-24-2002).] IP: Logged |

hello- ever played Quake?... then you'd know they've been creating good mods for years. It's fun to open up a Q model in an .mdl program & see the nice full UV texture mapping, insted of the TR "patchwork" of textures.but it's a totally different game. there's no way in ____ , that game can do the 3rd person perspective avatar we all know as Lara. the game engine simply won't allow fluid animations/gameplay in the 3rd person. it doesn't have the TR camera or the means to do 3rd person view(actually, it can but it's Soooo lame; they should look at "Oni" for ideas..) they haven't a clue about: "backflips, sideflips,swandives,etc,etc.." or- really making a muscular 3D game.. but enjoy the good looks of this model; it's a life-like AJ isn't it? but not Lara. what's comical is that ...on PlanetQuake, they crowed about this model as being far superior to the silly "blocky Core Design" model... they *missed* the point... their game ain't no TombRaider; never will be... so don't drool to hard over something that doesn't really work like *you'd want it to*- 'cause, it doesn't. the Vagrant IP: Logged |

True - Quake 3 is no Tomb Raider. After all TR games paved the way for other 3rd person games. I take back all i said about the TR4 engine being crappy after reading your reply Fairchild IP: Logged |

true, tomb raider has a great story behind it, and as far as i know, quake is kill kill kill, not to be judgemental or anything, but my preference is tr.

yo...I am a big fan of both quake and tomb raider... can you just don't compare them with each other? they are completely different games! They both exist in their good points! IP: Logged |

maybe we shouldnt judge quake, i mean i like games like goldeneye and perfect dark too, and those are (less violent then quake) but still about killing. I retract my statement, geckokid.

hi all, didn't mean to start a fight or nothing; all games have their merits... I am fond of Quake; i don't mind ... *kill, kill, kill* sometimes. i mean it is senseless violence; like why people slow down & gawk at an automobile accident. (you know you shouldn't-but you do...) & when the original GL(3dfx Glide) Quake 1 came out, it was(& still is...) really dreamy-looking..like the first TombRaider impressed me. (pretty good for an "old game"..) but, i prefer TR because, i'd rather explore/sightsee in archeological surroundings. I like fantasy/pulp fiction/ noir & *tabloid* sensationalism adventure games to -- "shooters". besides, Lara has the physical, muscular 3D animations sets that allow for "defensive combat"... it's just Really fun to jump her around, guns blazing! even Oni can't do that quite like Lara can... (although, Oni IS kool with her fantastic martial arts kicks, slides, punches, moves; a most excellent game!). try it-if you haven't yet. I used to build Quake levels, before i learned the TReditor. I like Quake/HL & UnReal but i could never go back to designing that style of gameplay. for me, it's not as satisfying as TR building. It's all in - what you want to do really.

The main thing is that Lara and Tomb Raider have "STYLE".I mean every one knows it! Even people who don't play computer games. There is no game that can reach Tomb Raider or Lara in this point and thats what makes this game so special! IP: Logged |
